HAIR BRAIDING

Course Description

The curriculum involves 300 Hours that meet the Illinois State requirements. The course includes extensive Theory and practical experience in hair braiding, twisting, natural styling, weaving, and other extension applications and business ethics. The curriculum also includes State laws and regulations, sanitation, personal appearance and hygiene, quality customer service, personal motivation, development, etc. The duration of the program is 16 weeks, based on 20 clock hours per week.

COURSE OBJECTIVE:
Upon completion of the course requirements, the graduate will be able to:
​
1. Have a thorough understanding of the History of natural hair care,
braiding, and career opportunities within the industry.
2. Understand the state laws and rules regarding infection control,
bacteriology, and sanitation.
3. Identifying Hair and Scalp Diseases and Disorders.
4. Practice basic principles for personal Hygiene and professional ethics.
5. Understand Basic Anatomy, Physiology, and Nutrition of natural hair.
6. Identify hair types, textures, and properties of the hair strand.
7. Shampoo and nurture natural hair.
8. Understand and perform practices and procedures to accomplish
braid styles, care for natural hair, braids, locs, twist, weave, and sewins.
9. Understand Business Practices, Salon Management, Human Relations,
salesmanship, and Worker’s Compensation.

COURSE COMPLETION:
Upon completing this 300-hour course, students receive a state-approved final exam that must prove a passing grade of 80% or better on theory and practical skills. Upon completion, the student receives a certificate of completion and a transcript. You must apply to the State Of Illinois to be issued a professional license.
 
 
School Hours:
Day time classes: Monday-Wednesday: 9 am - 3 pm 
Evening classes: Monday-Wednesday: 4 pm -9 pm
